Binghamton junior 125-pound David White went a perfect 3-0 to claim an individual title at the Lock Haven Cradle Gear Invitational Sunday at the Thomas Fieldhouse. Joining White on the podium was sophomore 174-pound Jack McKeever, who won five of six matches to place third. The Bearcats sent 12 men to the event and finished sixth out of 10 teams.
White opened with a 13-2 major decision in the quarterfinals and then earned a 1-0 win over second-seeded Mike Soria of Buffalo. In the finals, third-seeded White handled top-seeded Sean Boylan of Bloomsburg, 7-1. He raised his overall record to 13-6.
McKeever rattled off four straight wins after losing his only match in the quarters. He began with a third-period pin of Gordon Boliq of Franklin & Marshall. McKeever, seeded third, then posted wins of 6-0 and 4-1 to reach the third-place match. There, he beat Brett Stein of Gardner-Webb 6-4. McKeever lifted his season record to a team-best 19-7.
Sophomore 133-pound Mike Sardo and second-year 149-pound Dylan Caruana each won three matches. Sardo posted three straight wins in the backdraw, including a 3-1 decision over teammate Nick Tighe.
Binghamton is off until January 10 when the Bearcats will head to New York City to face Columbia. The BU wrestling program and Alumni Association will host a post-match alumni gathering after the 7 p.m. dual.
