Wrestling loses at Hofstra 28-8

Binghamton wrestling (4-11, 3-8 EIWA) won the first two matches of the night before host Hofstra (6-6, 4-2 EIWA) rattled off eight straight to deal the Bearcats a 28-8 setback Friday night at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead. The former CAA foes wrestled for the first time as members of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association after each joined the conference last April.

Senior 197-pound Cody Reed and junior heavyweight Tyler Deuel extended their win streaks with
major decisions to open the match. Reed rolled to a 16-5 win over Zeal McGrew for his ninth consecutive win. He raised his record to 22-8 on the season, 12-3 in duals. Deuel followed with a commanding 19-6 major decision over Michael Hughes. It was his ninth straight overall win and 12th consecutive dual match victory. Deuel now stands at 24-5 overall, 13-2 in duals.

Junior 125-pound David White pushed 15th-ranked and two-time NCAA qualifier Jamie Franco to a second tiebreaker before falling 2-1. The Bearcats also lost three other tight matches.

Binghamton travels to Buffalo to face the Bulls next Friday.
